This Mystic Falls trail starts at Old Faithful, and is one of four hikes which we offer to Mystic Falls. If you are staying in West Yellowstone, we can pick you up there and transport you to Old Faithful at no additional charge. The first part of the trail takes us past, or close to, several of Yellowstone's major geysers, including Castle Geyser, Giant Geyser, Daisy Geyser, Riverside Geyser and Grotto Geyser, until we reach Morning Glory Pool. The Artemisia Trail trailhead is adjacent to Morning Glory, and we'll hop on that for our first taste of Yellowstone's backcountry. There are many beautiful hot springs on the trail plus, of course, Artemisia Geyser itself. At the end of the Artemisia Trail, there are two options we can consider to reach Mystic Falls. The first way is to get into the wilderness immediately, over a stream and across open fields scattered with thermal features. The second is to start the hike through Biscuit Basin, and admire some of the many beautiful hot springs on the way. We'll take the one trail in and the other on the way back. After walking through a forest for a period, the trail picks up the Little Firehole River until we get to Mystic Falls. You'll be able to admire the waterfall for a while, and explore the area, before we retrace our steps towards the Daisy Geyser part of the trail. This is a delightful hike through the forests and across open meadows until we reach the Daisy Group of Geysers. From Daisy we'll make our way back to Old Faithful. The hike is about 7.5 miles (12.1 kilometres). We offer three other hikes which also visit Mystic Falls. Two begin at the Grand Loop Road, with one hiking to Mystic Falls, and the other also taking the trail to Mystic Falls, but continuing on to the Biscuit Basin overlook after Mystic Falls. The third starts at Old Faithful, but after visiting Mystic Falls, it hikes up to the Biscuit Basin overlook as well. Please take a look at the two videos we have of this hike.
