This is another of our four Mystic Falls guided hikes, except this trail continues from Mystic Falls to a great overlook of Biscuit Basin and the Upper Geyser Basin. You can either meet us at the trailhead or we can pick you up in West Yellowstone or at Old Faithful. There is no additional charge for pick ups at those two locations. There are two ways we can access the trail, and we'll do one of those on the way there, and the other on the return trip. The first way is to get into the wilderness immediately, over a stream and across open meadows. The second is to start the hike through Biscuit Basin, and take in some of the many beautiful hot springs on the way. After walking through a forest for a period, the trail picks up the Little Firehole River until we get to Mystic Falls. Once you've explored the waterfall area for a while, we'll make our way up a steep switchback, to the top of a hill. The vertical gain on the climb is 500 feet (152 metres). This is steep, and you are at altitude, so please ensure that you are comfortable doing this hike. At the top we'll take a very pleasant stroll through the trees until we reach the overlook of Biscuit Basin from up high. You can also see all the way to the Old Faithful area. The hike down is steep, on a rough trail, until we reach the point where we started, and make our way back to the trailhead. The entire trail is approximately 4.9 miles (7.9 kilometres) long. We offer three other hikes which also visit Mystic Falls. One also starts at the Grand Loop Road, but only goes to Mystic Falls, and not Biscuit Basin. The other two start at Old Faithful, with one going to Fairy Falls, and the other hiking to both Fairy Falls and the Biscuit Basin overlook. Please take a look at the two videos we have of this hike.
