The guided hike to Solitary Geyser and the Old Faithful observation point takes you to a beautiful geyser sitting all by itself, as well as a most unusual perspective of the world's best known geyser! We can pick you up in West Yellowstone for this hike, or you can meet us at the trailhead. The price is the same. The hike goes over the Firehole River, before starting up a hill. By the time we reach the observation point, we will have gained approximately 200 feet (61 metres) in elevation. One of the amazing aspects of this hike is that in just minutes you'll be away from the crowds at Old Faithful, enjoying the peace and quiet of a forest, as you climb up the path, through the trees. We always time this hike so that we arrive at the Old Faithful observation point shortly before the start of the predicted eruption window. Once we get there, the vistas are pretty amazing, as you look out over so much of the Upper Geyser Basin to the forests beyond, and when Old Faithful does erupt, we can generally hear the cheering from the multitudes below! We'll drop down a little and then take a portion of the trail that is more or less flat, through a forest, before we reach Solitary Geyser, standing, as the name suggests, all by itself on a hill above the Upper Geyser Basin. After admiring Solitary Geyser, we'll continue through the forest, until we reach the Upper Geyser Basin boardwalk system, and make our way past any number of geysers and hot springs on our way back to Old Faithful. The Solitary Geyser and Old Faithful observation point hike is about 2.5 miles (four kilometres) in length.
