The Old Faithful observation point hike takes you to a most unusual perspective of the world's best known geyser! We can pick you up in West Yellowstone for this hike, or you can meet us at the trailhead. The price is the same. The Old Faithful observation point trail goes over the Firehole River, before starting up a hill. By the time we reach the observation point, we will have gained approximately 200 feet (61 metres) in elevation. One of the amazing aspects of this hike is that in just minutes you'll be away from the crowds at Old Faithful, enjoying the peace and quiet of a forest, as you climb up the path, through the trees. We always time this hike so that we arrive at the Old Faithful observation point shortly before the start of the predicted eruption window. Once we get there, the vistas are pretty amazing, as you look out on so much of the Upper Geyser Basin to the forests beyond, and when Old Faithful does erupt, we can generally hear the yelling and shouts from the multitudes below! The Old Faithful observation point hike is about 1.6 miles (2.6 kilometres) in length. If you'd prefer a trail that is longer, please consider another one of our hikes which does a big loop and also visits Solitary Geyser, in addition to the Old Faithful observation point. Please take a look at the two videos we have of this hike. One is the Old Faithful observation point highlights hike, and the other is the complete Old Faithful observation point hike.
